Welcome Note:
Hello all, and
welcome to my new subscribers. I do hope you
enjoy hearing from me once a month. For prior

Oya News:
May was a
productive month! It ushered in new clients and
the opportunity to be a keynote speaker at two
hospitals on the East coast, in celebration of
Nurses Week. It felt wonderful to remind nurses
how valuable they are to our society and what a
fine service they provide.
In June, I will be giving a workshop to Family
Practice residents in Texas on the subjects of
thriving by making good career choices and as
upcoming leaders.
With a coaching colleague I respect and enjoy, I
will be giving our first two-part workshop
titled “Thriving in Practice – How to please
patients and banish burnout” to a physician
group in Santa Monica.
On June 19th, I will be the keynote speaker at a
conference in Los Angeles entitled
Moms
Making Money. Please sign up and attend if
you are available and interested.
All these experiences should be fun!

Article: Enjoy Winning - How to Reward Your
Successes
“Gooooooaaaal!”
The TV almost vibrates with the rousing cheer of
the soccer commentator on the Spanish channel as
the ball skids past the goalie into the net. Who
doesn’t respond with a tingle to such a roar
from the crowd?
Wouldn’t it be marvelous to have someone yell
with the same admiration as you scored one of
your significant goals? A celebration of the
crowning of all your effort. You could jig and
grin and slap your chest with glee. Or just
smile privately and glow inside.
Once you’ve kicked a winner, however big or
small, you want more. Success is addictive. It
brings its own challenges, as many a celebrity
knows, but it does encourage you to keep trying.
One of the secrets of managing each challenge is
to align your vision of success with your
deepest values - those things that you hold
dear. Your values serve as goal posts, defining
the boundaries between which you must score, in
order to accomplish your aim and experience the
internal reward.
In the book I will be reviewing below, the
author clarifies what a true goal is. Those
chores that keep piling up, that office you need
to tidy and organize, or the project you have to
complete by the end of the month at work - all
will bring you relief once achieved. These are
tasks, not goals.
Achieving your true goals brings you more than
relief; it brings you joy and a deep sense of
accomplishment. It is a cause for celebration.
To play the game well:
• Decide what
you want to get done.
• Select one goal that you believe will bring
you satisfaction when it is realized.
• Plan the steps to getting there – make them
small enough to be able to complete each day or
week.
• Make sure you remember to reward yourself as
you reach the small milestones you set for
yourself. It’s as much about having fun as it is
about hard work!!
Share your goal with someone who encourages and
believes in you. A buddy, a spouse, a child, a
teacher, a coach. The triumph will be sweeter
when there is someone who will toot the horn
that you might be too reserved or self-effacing
to sound!
On Track: Goal-Setting
Part 3
Your goal is
important to you and you are ready to tackle it,
so how confident are you about succeeding?
The third attribute to be aware of in goal
setting is your Confidence. How many times
previously have you attempted this goal without
much success? How optimistic are you about your
effort? What skills or abilities will it take to
achieve your goal?
The approach is:
• Picture your goal
• Ask yourself: “How confident am I that I will
find a way to succeed?”
• Score yourself for 1 to 10, 1 being “I am not
at all confident” and 10 is “I truly believe I
will succeed”
If you score less than 7, you need a confidence
booster.
Doing is the best way to enhance your confidence
– it circumvents the paralysis that accompanies
a lack of assurance, and it makes you to
practice. I bet you couldn’t play the piano or
draw as a kid without practicing regularly!
• Take classes or courses on-line or in person,
or read books to learn or build up the necessary
skills
• Practice daily or weekly – regularity is the
key
• Ask people who have succeeded for tips or
tricks that served them. Modify the information
to match your own style or needs.
• Get support and encouragement – a friend, a
teacher, a mentor, a coach, an expert
• Ask for constructive feedback to help you
improve
Armed with your self-assessment of importance,
readiness and confidence, you now have a few
tools to estimate your likelihood of success in
achieving the goals you are contemplating.
Next month, I will write about setting up your
personal “Board of Directors”.
Book of The Month
I was intrigued enough by the title
The
Energy of Money to request the book from my local
library. When they told me how far down I was on
the waiting list, I thought I might be onto
something, and purchased it instead. A good buy!
Far from being the New Agey book the subtitle
suggests, it is a provocative and practical
coaching guide to what the author acknowledges
is an uncomfortable subject for most of us.
After sharing her own instructive story of
humiliation in money-handling, she uses her
twelve Principles to lead the reader through a
hero’s journey towards financial and personal
fulfillment. She ends by reminding the reader
“money’s true purpose is to serve the larger
purpose of your life”.
Have an enjoyable month!
